India's Supreme Court refused on Wednesday to hear an urgent petition on police violence against student protesters, as the youth-led Cockroach movement's occupation of Jantar Mantar in New Delhi entered its thirty-fourth day.
The Indian government airlifted around two thousand paramilitary personnel from the eastern city of Kolkata to the capital overnight to bolster security, while opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka were detained on Tuesday during a sit-in outside the prime minister's residence.
Opposition lawmakers disrupted both houses of parliament on Wednesday in solidarity with the demonstrators.
