India's Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned, bowing to weeks of pressure from one of the country's largest student movements in years over leaked entrance exam papers.
Pradhan announced the decision on social media platform X on Saturday, saying he had sent his resignation letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi — even as police fired tear gas at demonstrators at the Jantar Mantar protest site in New Delhi.
The so-called Cockroach movement, which began over alleged leaks in competitive exams including the NEET medical entrance test, has grown into a broader protest over unemployment and government accountability.
