HAMAS CONFIRMS DISARMAMENT DEAL BUT SETS CONDITIONS INCLUDING PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD AS ISRAEL STAYS SILENT

Hamas has confirmed it will begin disarming under a deal announced by US President Donald Trump, but says the surrender of its heavy weapons is contingent on the creation of a Palestinian state — something the Israeli government firmly opposes.

Israel has not publicly responded to the agreement, which was brokered by mediators from Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye and the United States. Under the deal, weapons would be handed to a Palestinian technocratic committee rather than to Israel or any non-Palestinian party.

The process is expected to begin with Gaza's police force, with heavier weaponry and tunnel infrastructure to follow in later phases.
