Pakistan is deploying additional forces in the country’s southwest

Pakistan is deploying paramilitary troops in the country’s southwest to protect mineral assets. 

The move comes as Islamabad ramps up efforts to attract foreign investment in the region's mining sector and revive its struggling economy. 

The resource-rich southwestern province has for decades been gripped by a long-running insurgency.
