UK MPs TO VOTE ON INVESTIGATION INTO STARMER

UK MPs will vote later (around 18GMT) on whether the should be a parliamentary sleaze inquiry into the Prime Minister over the appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador.

Keir Starmer is urging Labour backbenchers to reject the motion to refer him to the Privileges Committee, dismissing it as a 'political stunt'.

The under-pressure leader denies opposition claims he misled the Commons about the way the former US ambassador's appointment and vetting were handled.

Former Labour home secretary Alan Johnson hopes MPs vote against an investigation, insisting the issues are already being looked into.
