STARMER FACING CONTINUED CALLS TO RESIGN

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces continued calls to resign over the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the US.

On Tuesday, the former top civil servant in the Foreign Office told MPs he was under "constant pressure" to approve Mandelson.

Sir Olly Robbins was sacked after it emerged he cleared Lord Mandelson despite vetting officials raising security concerns.

Government minister Pat McFadden says there was a rationale for the appointment which the Prime Minister now admits was a mistake.
