Maternity Care In England Criticised

Maternity care in England “isn't good enough”, according to the country's top midwife.

There were 252 maternal deaths from 2022 to 2024, a 20% increase in just over a decade.

New clinical standards will be rolled out across every hospital to try and combat the rising mortality rates. Measures are set to include more mental health assessments and easier access to midwives.

NHS England's chief midwifery officer, Kate Brintworth, says there'll be more training on how to deal with baby loss as well:

IN: “It’s a terrible…”
OUT: “...experience that anguish.”
