EU calls for calm following death of Iran Ayatollah

European Union foreign ministers have held an emergency meeting to
discuss the situation in Iran and the threat of broader escalation.

EU officials say the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei provides an
opportunity for the people of Iran but warn that recent developments
could push the region into a spiral of violence.
