White House, Democrats seek to avoid shutdown over ICE funding dispute (slightly tighter)

The White House may strike a deal with Democrats to keep the government open, after the party said it would withhold support for a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security, the agency that oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
