Indian economists place obesity in the economic risk category for the first time ever

A key policy document in India has for the first time placed obesity and unhealthy diets in the economic risk category, and suggested a marketing ban and high taxes on ultra-processed foods to tackle the public health crisis.

It says India's obesity crisis is now an economic threat, as it is rising at an alarming rate, making it a major public health challenge.
