HUNDREDS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN QUAKE

Officials in Afghanistan say a strong earthquake has killed at least 600 people and injured hundreds of others.

The magnitude-6 quake struck the east of the country, near the city of Jalalabad on the border with Pakistan.

Thousands are feared to be injured or stuck, while local authorities say several villages have been "completely destroyed".

Ali M Latifi, a journalist based in the Afghan capital Kabul, says it's a struggle for the government to help people.
