Trump looks to fill Federal Reserve vacancy with key ally

Donald Trump selected a key ally to fill a temporary opening on the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors, which is tasked with setting monetary policy in the US.

It follows months of mounting pressure on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, with President Trump criticising Powell over the decision not to cut interest rates.
