French PM suggests removing two public holidays as part of budget savings

The French prime minister has controversially suggested getting rid of two of France's bank holidays as part of dramatic budget savings worth more than $40 billion dollars.

On Wednesday, the government defended the proposal but opposition parties are united in their disapproval and there is a real chance that PM François Bayrou might be brought down by MPs when they vote on the proposals in the autumn.
