UK government sources say they hope to reach a trade deal with the US before tariffs on car imports come into force next week.
US President Donald Trump announced new import taxes on cars made outside America to come into effect from April 2nd.
The UK has been in discussions with Washington about an 'economic prosperity agreement' which could include exemptions from some tariffs.
But Foreign Affairs Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats party Calum Miller says Britain should respond to the duties in kind.
