NATIONAL GRID: POWER REMAINED AVAILABLE FOR HEATHROW DURING SHUTDOWN

The UK's National Grid claims power was available to keep Heathrow airport open during Friday's shutdown.

The boss of Britain's electricity distribution network John Pettigrew says there were two other electrical substations which could have powered Heathrow after the fire in west London.

Airport managers say the closure was caused by the time it took to switch to alternative power supplies.

Aviation expert John Strickland says it's a wake-up call for Britain's critical infrastructure.
