ASSISTED DYING LEGISLATION BEGINS EXPERT SCRUTINY

British MPs will begin hearing from expert witnesses on Tuesday as scrutiny of proposed assisted dying legislation begins.

England's chief medical officer Sir Chris Whitty and the chief executive of palliative care charity Sue Ryder are among those giving evidence on the first day.

Some disability campaigners have criticised the hearings after the scrutinising committee voted against hearing from some of their witnesses.

MP Kim Leadbeater has promised balanced and detailed analysis of her Bill.
