Planning Overhaul Announced In England

A major shakeup of the planning system in England has been announced - as the government tries to deliver 1.5 million new homes within the next 5 years.


The new plans include mandatory targets for housebuilding that have to be hit by local councils, along with funding for 300 new planning officers, to speed up the building process.


With a growing demand for houses and prices in the UK spiralling in recent decades, more emphasis will also be placed on building 'truly affordable' homes.


Housing Minister, Matthew Pennycook, says it isn't about concreting over the countryside, but that fundamental changes are needed…
