CARETAKER PM APPOINTED FOR SYRIA

Mohammed al Bashir's been appointed caretaker Prime Minister for Syria, according to local media.

He'll hold the role at the head of a transitional government until March next year.

Al Bashir had previously been running rebel-held Idlib before the fall of Bashar al Assad's regime.

Security expert at the University of Buckingham Professor Anthony Glees says western countries will need to engage carefully with the new authorities in Syria.
