US prosecutors prepare to drop Trump election subversion case

US special counsel Jack Smith has acknowledged the 2020 election
subversion case against Donald Trump is unlikely to proceed.

Smith has said the "unprecedented circumstance" of Trump being
re-elected means the case will likely have to be permanently paused.
