The French parliament has formally started debating the new coalition government's contentious budget.
The finance minister is hoping to make some $60 billion dollars' worth of savings to deal with the country's colossal debt.
Opposition parties on the left argue the richest should pay more tax, and the far-right say savings could be made by cutting immigration services.
