Chagos Decision Prompts Fresh Falklands Calls

After the UK government announced it was returning the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, there are fresh calls to give up control of the Falkland Islands.


Argentina's foreign minister has promised 'concrete action' but the Falklands governor says Britain's commitment to the territory is 'unwavering'.


It comes in the wake of the decision to hand over sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago, a move criticised by opposition Conservative politicians in the UK.


The government says the decision secures the future of a strategically important military base in the Indian Ocean. But Professor Richard Elkins from the Policy Exchange think tank has said he believes the decision was a mistake…
