The United States has announced that it will begin work on a
resolution for United Nations Security Council reforms.
Speaking in New York on Thursday, the US' Ambassador to the UN, Linda
Thomas-Greenfield said her country will support the creation of two
permanent seats for Africa.
In addition to the two permanent African seats, the US has also
announced its support for a rotating seat for small island developing
states and its long-held support for India, Japan and Germany to also
get permanent seats on the council.
The announcement does not however include expanding veto powers beyond
the five countries that hold it.
Thomas-Greenfield says the status quo within the council was just not
cutting it and it's time to make a change.
IN: As it stands...
OUT: ...on the council.
