Prime Minister Narendra Modi is campaigning in Indian-administered Kashmir, a day after the region held its first election in a decade.
Two more phases of polling will be held before results are announced in early October.
Modi's visit comes hours after Pakistan 'rejected' the elections in Kashmir, saying elections are 'no substitute for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination'.
Kashmir is governed in parts by India and Pakistan but claimed in full by both.
