BJP backs now annulled police order asking business to identify owners by name

Intro:

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has defended a controversial police order effectively asking some businesses to identify the religion of its owner.

Police officials had asked eateries and food carts to display the names of their owners while a Hindu religious procession passed through a city in India's most populous state.

Officials have since amended the order.
