Security Council to decide on admitting Palestine as a permanent UN member

The United Nations Security Council will today (Monday) decide whether
to allow Palestine permanent membership to the world body.
Earlier this month the Arab group sent a letter to the Secretary
General expressing support for the admission of the State of Palestine
to UN membership.
Once this council process is passed it will be voted on in the General
Assembly -- which requires a two-thirds majority.
