India and UK reaffirm commitment to trade deal

India's prime minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak have reaffirmed their commitment to sealing a new trade deal.

This is, however, unlikely to be reached before a general election in India, due to be held in the coming weeks.

Talks have been challenging, as the two sides have failed to see eye-to-eye on issues including lower tariffs for British exports to India, and an easing of immigration rules for Indians.
