Hong Kong tables controversial Article 23 legislation

Days after Beijing asked Hong Kong to swiftly enact home-grown security laws, the city's legislative council has tabled a draft bill for discussion.

Lawmakers say there's an 'urgent need' to pass the law and safeguard national security.

Article 23 is separate from a security law imposed by Beijing which came into effect in 2020 following months of pro-democracy protests.
