The United Nations has expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo that has put the lives of thousands of civilians at risk.
An escalation of fighting between government forces and the M23 rebels is reported to have displaced 144,000 people in recent weeks, worsening a humanitarian crisis in the region.
