UN Rights Office maintains planned execution of an Alabama man may constitute torture

The United Nations office for Human Rights has warned that the first
planned execution of a prisoner by nitrogen gas asphyxiation this
month could violate international law.
Kenneth Smith was convicted for a murder-for-hire committed in 1988.
He is scheduled to be executed in Alabama later this month.
