New York police officers will have to record the apparent race, gender and ages of most people they stop for questioning under a new city law.
Under the new legislation passed by the City Council, the NYPD will document basic information in low-level encounters.
Proponents say it will make policing more transparent, but police representatives say the new rules will lead to increased workloads and longer wait times for victims.
