India reported close to 600 cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours which includes about 200 cases of the new Omicron sub-variant JN.1.
In response to the uptick, the Indian government has urged state governments to remain vigilant and prepared.
Some states have reintroduced mandatory wearing of masks in public places.
