UK TO SIGN RWANDA MIGRATION TREATY

UK Home Secretary James Cleverly is in Rwanda to sign a treaty with the country to see some asylum seekers sent there to process their claims.

The policy was announced over a year ago but flights to Rwanda from the UK have not started due to legal challenges.

The opposition Labour party says the plan is an expensive 'gimmick'.

Immigration minister Robert Jenrick says the treaty is an important moment in cutting illegal immigration.
