US Congressman Jim Jordan has failed for the third successive time to win enough votes to become Speaker of the House of Representatives, leaving the heart of American democracy in a state of paralysis.
The hardline conservative Representative had bid to step into the vacant seat of power after the ousting of Kevin McCarthy more than two weeks ago.
But Jordan fell short yet again on Friday, with 25 of his own Republican Party colleagues voting against him.
