The emergency United Nations security council meeting has concluded in
New York without a unified statement.
Held behind closed doors, the 15-member council met to discuss the
unfolding violence.
The Israeli government on Sunday ahead of the meeting formally
declared war and gave the green light for "significant military steps"
to retaliate against Hamas for its surprise attack.
