Heavy fighting in Gaza between Israeli troops and Hamas

The Israeli military says it is involved in "large exchanges" with
Hamas in Gaza, as it tries to push further into the enclave.

Israel says its forces have repelled militants who were firing
anti-tank missiles.

It comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was "a time
for war", and refused calls to push for a ceasefire.

The health ministry in Gaza says it has recorded more than 8,500
deaths from Israel's bombardment in the last 3 weeks.
