California governor Gavin Newsom, has chosen Laphonza Butler, a
Democratic strategist and adviser to Kamala Harris' presidential
campaign - to fill the US Senate vacancy left by the death of Dianne
Feinstein.
She will be the only Black female senator, and the first openly LGBTQ+
person to represent California in the chamber.
