Despite global pressure Russia went ahead with regional and gubernatorial elections not only on its territory, but also in the occupied Ukrainian regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Ukraine and the West have denounced Kremlin's attempts to tighten its grip of the annexed territories it still can not fully control. The US warned anyone against taking part of what it labelled "a sham vote". The Council of Europe called Moscow's move a "flagrant violation of international law". Ukraine urged other countries not to recognise the voting results. Our correspondent Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.
