Republicans launch impeachment probe of Biden with government shutdown hours away

Republicans seeking to impeach US President Joe Biden for as-yet unproven allegations of corruption have suffered a major blow on the first day of their public investigation.


A key Republican witness conceded there is no evidence to support the case against the President.


Meanwhile, a US government shutdown is now hours away, as Republicans in the House of Representatives battle the White House over President Biden's public spending plans.
