Philippines to Take Over From Myanmar as ASEAN Chair in 2026

The Philippines will replace Myanmar as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian nations in 2026 as the bloc keeps struggling to find consensus on how to handle its military rulers.

Sources say the decision came after an assessment of the junta's implementation of a five point plan for Myanmar, which has been ravaged by violence since a 2021 coup.
