NIGER SHUTS DOWN AIRSPACE AFTER DEFYING ECOWAS DEADLINE TO RETURN TO DEMOCRACY


Niger has shut its airspace after defying a deadline given by West African regional bloc ECOWAS to return to civilian rule.

The Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) had threatened to use military force in Niger if the junta leader failed to release and reinstate ousted president Mohammed Bazoum.
