Japan has begun discharging treated, nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean.
The highly controversial project started on Thursday after years of planning.
The water has been treated to strip it of radionuclides in a special facility after being used to cool molten fuel from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which was wrecked by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
