North Korea has fired two ballistic missiles into the sea, according to South Korea and Japan, just hours after a US nuclear-powered submarine arrived in South Korea.
Meanwhile, the US state department says it has not managed to have any substantive communication with North Korea over the American soldier who crossed into the country last week.
