Henry Kissinger, the one-hundred-year-old former American diplomat, has upstaged the US climate envoy John Kerry by meeting the Chinese president Xi Jinping on a private trip to Beijing.
Mr Kerry shook hands with China's premier and Vice-President this week on his four-day visit to restart talks on fighting global warming. But he didn't sit down with President Xi, who told Mr Kissinger that he'll never forget "old friends" like him.
