Support, solidarity, but no shortcuts on membership at EU-Ukraine summit

Top European Union officials are in Kyiv for the first EU-Ukraine summit since Russia invaded last February.

The EU announced fresh support for Ukraine and says its humanitarian, military and financial assistance to Kyiv now totals around $55 billion US dollars.

But one item on Kyiv's wishlist likely won't be checked off any time soon: after Ukraine was granted EU candidate status last year, officials in the country have set their sights on joining the bloc within 2-3 years.
