US, Mexico and Canada unite to condemn Brazil uprising

The leaders of the US, Mexico and Canada have roundly condemned the weekend's uprising in Brazil that saw supporters of former President Jair Bolsanaro occupy and vandalize government buildings in the capital Brasilia.


At least 1,200 people have been detained by the authorities in connection with the riots.


US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is traveling with President Biden today in Mexico City.

Mr. Bolsanaro has been admitted to a hospital in Florida suffering from abdominal pain, amid reports that he has taken advice in recent days from figures within former President Donald Trump's inner circle.


The former Brazilian leader claims that the country's Presidential election last October was rigged.
