The Russian Ministry of Defence has denied that its missiles hit Polish territory, after an intense bombardment of Ukrainian cities.
Local authorities in Poland say two people were killed in a blast in a village in the far east of the country.
Western allies are now scrambling to establish whether a Russian missile crossed into Poland, which is a member of NATO.
