European Union environment ministers are gathering today to hash out their negotiating position for the COP27 climate summit, to be held next month in Egypt.
Since the invasion of Ukraine, EU countries have been scrambling to replace Russian gas imports by burning more coal and signing new fossil fuel deals. That's sparking fears that the energy crisis may derail the bloc's big climate promises.
Arriving at Monday's (/today's) talks, EU climate chief Frans Timmermans insisted that things are moving in the right direction.
