US privately warns Russia over nuclear weapons

U.S. officials say Washington has been warning Russia for months about
the grave consequences a Moscow-led nuclear strike would have.

It comes after Russian president Vladimir Putin threatened the
possibility of using such weaponry as part of its war in Ukraine.
