State Department says "tremendous progress" made in talks with Pacific Island leaders

US officials say that "tremendous progress" has been made in negotiations with Pacific Island leaders as President Biden hosts them for a first White House summit.

But the State Department would not disclose whether the Solomon Islands has dropped its opposition to a planned declaration that the White House hopes will be unanimously supported by the time the 2-day summit ends.

The State Department spokesman is Ned Price.
