It was 1994 when Queen Elizabeth the Second became the first ruling British monarch to set foot on Russian soil — at the invitation of then President Boris Yeltsin.
Before the fall of the Soviet Union it was seen as inappropriate for the British monarch to visit a communist country.
But the new Russia was at the time keen to strengthen ties with the West.
